A big week for many cities have got started; since last Tuesday the LGBT Pride is celebrated all over Europe to promote the LGBT rights.
The month of June was chosen for LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBT people have had in the world.
Many cities have already started to wave the colourful flag, promoting the self-affirmation, rights and dignity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) . At The Wonder Trip, we support the Gay Pride and today we want to walk around 5 of our Wonder Cities where the Gay Pride is a big celebration.
Authentic passion is what we can find in Madrid during the celebration of the Gay Pride. Year after year the streets of the Spanish capital hit records in terms of number of participants and people attending the event in the capital. The main locations is the well-known neighborhood of "Chueca", where you can find outdoors parties all the day long.
Barcelona another of the Spanish cities where lot of people go out to support the Gay Pride movement. For some days you can find concerts at the most emblematic places of the city, such as "Paralelo", "Tibidabo", or even the "Maria Cristina Avenue".
Next to that, we need to add another important meeting point to celebrate the Gay Pride, which is like 30/40KM away from Barcelona and where you can also find people really passionate about the importance of claiming the LGBT rights. This place is Sitges: don't forget to pass by if you are around!
Known by locals as CSD Berlin (Christopher Street Day), and by the rest of us as Gay Pride Berlin, the festivities are now spread over a week and offer around 200 events. Berlin’s ‘Christopher Street Day’ offers one of the most eclectic pride celebrations in Europe.
The Berlin gay pride parade begins in Kurfürstendamm at the corner of Joachimstaler Str, making its way past Nollendorfplatz, and eventually ending up at Brandenburg Gate after passing through the city’s beautiful park, Tiergarten.
If you really wanna have fun during the Gay Pride, Amsterdam is your place;with the "Europride" this year the celebration gets even bigger and longer. The pride lasts 3 weeks, from 23 July till 7 August 2016, with Canal Parade and street parties taking place 5 - 7 August. London celebrates the Gay Pride with theatre, dance, art, talks, parties, cinema, events and activities across the city. Featuring 40,000 community representatives, dancers and performers, this showcase of LGBT culture in the capital attracts thousands of spectators each year, it is really impressive.
The culmination of the festival is the colourful Pride in London Parade which is followed by festivities and performances in Trafalgar Square;it took place the last 25th of June.
