The Wonder destinations celebrate the start of one of the most important football competitions

Last Friday, one of the most important football competitions all over the world got started, the Eurocope. For almost one month, Europe will be " paralyzed" to see its top football teams doing their best with the only purpose to win the famous cup and become champions of the competition.

As we know, this competition is held every four years, choosing each year a country as the tournament organizer. This time the host will be France, one of the most desired destinations by you, so we have decided to walk a little bit around the country to show you some of the nicest cities and the way you can get to know them in a different way, by travelling with us. Feeling like joining us?

Nice

A few kilometers away from Italy, it is the largest city of the French Riviera. It is famous for its stunning beaches and resorts in one of the main venues where the tournament takes place. If you're one of the lucky ones to spend a surprise weekend in this city, you cannot forget (besides enjoying any of the parties) to take a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, a famous walk of almost 4km around the bay.

Also, don't forget to go up to the top of the Castle Hill, where you can enjoy incredible views over the orange roofs of the city. Get ready, more than 200 steps to the top wait for you.

The Flowers Market is also a must-see, every local will advise you to go there. On the way there stop by and try one of the most famous delicatessen in the area, the socca. It is a kind of pancake made out of chickpea flour, water and olive oil. We are sure that it will surprise you!

Marseilles

Marseille is another city located by the seashore; It is the second largest city in France and has one of the best stadiums of the Eurocope .

During your weekend you have to walk around the Abbey of Saint-Victor and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde.  Calas de Cassis offers you over 20 km to explore one of the areas with more vegetation. This natural park will not leave you indifferent with its stunning cliffs.

We cannot think of something better than passing by the bars and restaurants at Thiars Square to finish your adventure

Paris

The "City of Light and Love" is undoubtedly the most important capital of the entire championship. The city has hosted more than once other important competitions.

With more than two million inhabitants, Paris offers a wide range of activities and places to get lost for 48 hours. The first thing to do is going to the most important monument of the city, the Eiffel Tower.  Once you have enjoyed the view from the top of the tower, is time to walk to the Latin Neighborhood, where you can enjoy one of the most popular churches, Notre Dame.

Take your time to stare at the Arc de Triomphe in The Champs-Élysées; it is one of the most remarkable signs of the city. Walking through this area we can reach the Place de la Concorde and discover the Obelisk of Luxor.

If you're a lover of museums and, especially, paintings, you cannot leave the city without seeing the Louvre; we suggest that from there you go running to watch the sunset at Montmartre, a large hill 130 metres high.

If you still have energy for more, don't hesitate to go to the entrance of great Moulin Rouge and take a selfie before the next match.

Lyon

Between the Rhone and Saone rivers  you can find the third largest city in France, Lyon. The Grand Stade is home of the well-known "Olympique Lyon", and during these weeks it will be a meeting point for hundreds of fans who will get together to  support their respective teams.

If you're one of the lucky ones who are visiting this town, we suggest you enjoy the great views offered by the district Fourviere; in the middle of the mountains lies a large number of churches and many Roman areas still remain there.

By walking through the streets of Old Lyon you  will feel like looking back to the Renaissance period. By the River Saône  you can contemplate one of the most beautiful cathedrals, San Pablo, where  you can taste the famous bouchon. And finally, we suggest a ride on the little wheel that is located at the Place Bellecour.

Toulouse

It is one of the smallest cities in France but it has a great cultural appealing. Our Wonder travellers from Amsterdam can travel to this destination and enjoy "the pink city".

The city is characterized by its unusual colors. We can get lost among the great variety of museums and galleries in its Gothic streets. In the Donjon Square we can taste one of the greatest pleasures of the city, cookies and coffee; You can have lot of fun by biking around the canals and gardens of the city, particularly including the gardens of the Museum G. Labit, a beautiful building with Arabic style.

Bordeaux

The city is not only popular for its wine but also for its modern stadium, built one year ago.

In the old part of the city there are huge stone buildings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; stroll through the streets of the Rue Sainte Catherine, one of the most important commercial areas of the city. At the end of the street you can find the Puerta de Aquitania, symbolizing The Aquitaine region where the city is.

Our best recommendation for dinner is a good entrecote accompanied by a local wine; if you are not feeling full after that, go for a delicious crepe.

Now that we know a little bit more of the main cities of France, it is time to start deciding with whom you will go for a surprise trip; Cross fingers because we don't find a better place to end up this getaway weekend.
